We're Speaker 2 00:04:12 Getting the inside scoop on Kim's Speaker 3 00:04:14 Favorites product into it. You flat iron it. Speaker 2 00:04:17 Oh my goodness. Of your product line. What do you think would be the best for hair Speaker 3 00:04:26 Growth? Product Grow Ginger cream, which is amazing. Conditioners, very nourishing, proper oil. And but it really, immediately you feel the difference in your hair and like it's tie, draining, it cookie, it nourishes the hair. It really helps to, you know, bring that hair back together. Speaker 2 00:04:46 What, um, today would you say, or who is most inspiring? Like what gets you inspired to create? Speaker 3 00:04:55 You know, I would say my client, it inspired me to create products cause I wanna create things that they need. You know, having that salon for 30 years. Wow. I had so many clients that came through there and she how I had needs. And so that made me start creating products that I felt things, Speaker 2 00:05:12 You know, like personalized Speaker 3 00:05:13 And things that I want to use and, and, and do people's hair. Cause you know, I created products that I like to use <laugh>. So. Speaker 2 00:05:21 Absolutely. What was your most exciting experience or event that you got to prepare a client for? Speaker 3 00:05:29 I have to say Coachella. Wow. Yeah. The Beyonce perform at Coachella. Yeah. Now they call it Ella Speaker 2 00:05:37 As it should be called. Right. Speaker 3 00:05:38 And I say, cause I gotta sit in on a of those rehearsals and I watched it together and, um, be major. Wow. And it was so, and it was always inwe of her in her work that she says. But really seeing that was just like, wow. Speaker 2 00:05:57 Phenomenal. I love that. So piggybacking of the, um, Ella experience, what was your favorite, um, hair look that you did on her for that Speaker 3 00:06:06 Weekend? I did. The half of Speaker 2 00:06:07 Half. The half it was. Yeah. Yes. I love that. My always love the half of half Speaker 3 00:06:12 Dance moment. Speaker 2 00:06:14 It snatches the face and Speaker 3 00:06:17 Youthful. But you still got the drama Speaker 2 00:06:19 Back. Exactly. I love that. Yeah. The volume. Speaker 3 00:06:22 Do you, do you Speaker 2 00:06:23 See, I'm gonna keep asking you questions after I lie. Um, do you have like a good product or good advice on volume? Speaker 3 00:06:31 Ooh. Um, yeah. Listen. Speaker 2 00:06:33 Mm-hmm. <affirmative> Speaker 3 00:06:35 More hair always brings more volume, Speaker 2 00:06:37 Period. Oh, that's true. Speaker 3 00:06:39 Extension. Speaker 2 00:06:40 Yes. Keep added. The bundles Speaker 3 00:06:42 You gotta do is cancel instant gratification for Speaker 2 00:06:45 I love that. Yeah. So I, yeah, I'm, I'm definitely heading over to the website. Website. Speaker 3 00:06:50 Website. Is it Kim kimball do com? Kim? Well, Kim Kimble hair is the wig. Okay. And shop Kim Kimble is the, the, but if you go to shop Kim Kimble, you can still get for the Speaker 2 00:07:00 Big excitement. And then if we want to be updated with you on social media at Kimball Haircare Speaker 3 00:07:05 At Kimble Haircare on Instagram and Twitter. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, you know where to go to find the beautiful, sweet soul. So thank you so much for joining us at Carl Jr. Beauty Branch. We enjoy having you here. It's a pleasure to honor you tonight. Speaker 2 00:07:32 Welcome back to Carl J's Beauty brunch. We are here with Hey, Elizabeth Woods Z one and only Elizabeth Woods. I didn't say that they did, but I'm, I'm, thank you. Listen, we're giving Barbie and we're giving money and it's given also bouquet in Beverly Hills. It's giving integrity in Beverly Hills. Ooh. Ooh. Spicy. Okay. Oh, we like it. Yes. I love this spice. Tell us about, you know, your role in this industry. You know, the fashion and beauty space. I don't know what my role is in it. You know, I'm a management media company. That's a, that's a huge, that's cute role. So I do a lot of brand deals with those brands. Yeah. That you're probably talking about. Yes. Speaker 3 00:08:19 Just Speaker 2 00:08:19 About elevating and creating and maintaining integrity and bringing some focus to areas that there is very limited focus. I love that. And level the playing field. That's really what I'm, that's probably what I'm trying to do. I love that. What's, what's your biggest project now? What, what area are you shedding light on now? So I have Woods Management Group, I have Woods Media Group. I have Woods Music Group. I have music artists side. I'm expanding to the ATL in Miami. Oh wow. Congratulations. Okay. We love that. My agency there. So I'm presently looking for an office in Atlanta. Wow. Congratulations. That's huge. That's huge. We're with a lot of powerful women out there. And listen, Hey. Okay. Come in. Hey listen, it's amazing, it's amazing to see like women not only dominate a space, but be so, um, just passionate about like, giving back and alone other women to also like dominate like Right. Speaker 2 00:09:17 Their own space. You know, I'm very passionate about it. Cause we just bring so much to the table. Absolutely. And we're so underrepresented that I tell people that most of the power players that I'm meeting, that I'm doing business with right now, yes. They're all women. I love that. Listen, speaking of girl Power, one of our honorees tonight is, um, Ms. Kim Kimball. I love that. I know Kim for a long time. Yes. So I just, I just love this energy of like just, you know, powerful woman like yourself and Kim, like contributing to this beauty space, you know, and also like, just so passionate about like, giving back and alone others to like also do the same. I mean, you know, women know about beauty, but for me I'm like, I want them to know about tech. I want them to know about finance. I want them to know about domestic stuff. Speaker 2 00:10:11 I want them to know about education. Yeah. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Yeah. So I'm like, let's all work together and let's educate the youth. I love that because a lot of times we need social media, but social media is toxic too, as we know is the enemy sometimes. Yes. I really try to bring like a double-edged sword thing. I know we, we need it. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. But I really try to bring nurturing and faith and love and you know, we can, we can broker brand deals mm-hmm. <affirmative> and incorporate all of that and and maintain our integrity. And I'm really about that. So hopefully we don't have a podcast soon. I'm working on it has to happen. Yes. So if an individual, you know, was looking to maximize their brand, what are some like tips, um, that would give them, I would say stay true to self. Don't sell out. Look at not just a one up. Look at longevity. Wow. Look at equity in companies. Mm. Look at not just doing a brand deal. Being a brand. Wow. Wow. Wow. So the money that you make in those brand deals, girls, guys, whoever's making money. Yes. Yes. Invest it. Like invest in yourself. Yes. Wow. Cause if you don't invest in yourself, who's going? That's something I wish I would've known 10 years ago, but it's never too late. Speaker 2 00:11:34 Too late. You know, it's crazy. People really think I'm streets. You really don't understand. 90% of time people find me. Yeah. On my computer at home in my Nike. Okay. With the dunk in my sweats. Yes. Sneaker holic. Now Nike run me a deal. Okay. How about that? How about Nike? If you watch it a deal, run me a deal. Let's go. We need a collab immediately. Mm-hmm. Are you wearing Run Me a deal? No, I had to rock the look. Oh, she got the product kicks on. Yes. No, it's given. Yes. The Beauty Glam brunch. I'm really into this like almost corporate ledger look. I feel like that is such a vibe. It's me. So I'm always true to myself. So I'm see I'm me and it all, the integrity is, it's my son's birthday, so I'm about to go to school. What's his name? Speaker 2 00:12:31 We're gonna tell birthday's. So bowling tonight. I already told them. Expect me to have beat tonight. Some bowling. I love it. Today's his birthday yesterday. Okay. Cancer season. The was is very competitive. So, okay. And again, a bowling though, being honest. Which one is like the top bowl? Which one of your kids would you say it? Do you know what? So we have a group text with my, with my kids every single day. And I put in there today that we're going bowling Uhhuh. But Jordan can't be there. She's in Paris at Fashion Week. Oh. You know. Exciting. That's though Jordan. And she, I said I'm about to beat Asses and she wrote in there, it's a good thing for y'all. I'm not there. Oh. Oh. I love that. I'm like one of those that goes up and like rolls it down. No, I'm really, I'm really like sometimes so I get a strike and I'm gonna get really excited and I think I'm gonna just win the entire team. Speaker 2 00:13:30 And then it never happens again. And it never happens again. Exactly. If I don't get a strike or something. Yeah. Like I said, <inaudible>. Exactly. That's where not well over a hundred. Ooh. Then I'll be not happy. Okay. So the moral of the story is I cannot attend Woods bowling night. No, we won't. Cause I don't think I've ever hit a hundred. I know. I'm thinking a 60 looks like my location. But what I'm thinking is y'all can always attend the woods bowling night. Cause it's not about how you play the game. Tell the score. Like let's sit, let's fellowship, let's laugh, let's get short. I love that about creating memories. Yes. Yes. So if y'all get 30, I'm gonna remember that bare minimum goal. Speaker 2 00:14:20 I'll be like, what's up girl? You got 30. But still all love. I got you. Yeah. I was, I was in an interview at one time and someone asked me, would you rather lose your vision Wow. Entirely or lose your memories. Wow. You know, I don't wanna lose either one because life can be so beautiful. But yeah, please don't take my memories away. Especially six years ago, my husband passed away unexpectedly from cancer. My condolences, you know, we have kids and I would never wanna not remember. Yes. Yeah. Created. Wow. So even if you took, please don't take my vision. I don't want my vision to go. Yeah. Cause then you can't see anything in the future. But, you know, as long as my mind intact, like I, I always wanna keep those memories ly those dark days. And you refer back to those memories a lot of times those memories. Speaker 2 00:15:15 Yeah. They really will build you up in that moment. That's true. They can carry you through those moments. Really. So I'm like, I don't, I want both of them, but if the memory really sustain, the more important. Yeah. Real They do. Absolutely. What's um, so what are you all looking forward to? BT weekend? How about that? Lemme do this. Ok. Ok. Bronx the Village. Yes. It's not me, me, me. Remember that People I love. It's a village. Yes. It's a good, so what are you looking forward to? So, you know, I love a good dress up. I love a good opportunity to dress up. So, you know, just getting to go to some of these like events and you know, like being here today for the, what are you doing? So, you know, you're gonna be in the streets. Maybe a little, you know, just a little, a little razzle. Speaker 2 00:16:03 Cause you know, as an introvert may come out at some point. So I may not do any, but you want me to work early today? Yeah. Give me to work early. Yeah. I'm getting my early working and then I think like, you know, maybe I'll go in a little nighttime rendezvous with like friends, you know, just vibe out, you know, Hollywood air, just, you know, catch up. I don't date at all. There are no rendezvous over here at all. No. But I, well my nighttime Rhonda book, no, it's hanging out with my, my r no, mine is hanging, hanging out with friends the same way mine is hanging out with friends. Cuz the Dayden pool looks a little, um, questionable. Yeah. Yeah. It's, it's a bit, yeah. It's a bit bleak. So that LA is a very tough town. It is, yeah. It's like a zero out of 10 on Yelp or like a zero star. Speaker 2 00:16:47 It's almost going on the negative scale. Now. I did meet some eligible contenders last night though. Oh. I'm interested to see Ashley. Ashley, I'm excited to go to, to go to the awards this year. I, I went last year. But this year they're doing like a, they want to celebrate the 50th anniversary of hip hop. Wow. So they want more of a, a casual hip hop. I love that festival vibe. So I'm interested to see how that plays out like on a, on a grand award scale. Yes. Like cuz you know, people in LA show up wearing whatever they wanna wear no matter what dress code is. Whatever the vibe is. Exactly. You'll, and you'll see people in pajamas and people in gowns. I look go and gowns and people in bikinis all at the same time in the middle of the winter. I'm just like mm-hmm. Speaker 2 00:17:40 <affirmative>. And I'm like, where y'all, y'all going to the same place? Yes. Oh my goodness. But I love that diversity though. The seeing people being true to really who they are at the core. You know, it's true. I'm a Michigan Park girl, right? Ooh. So I've been out here a long time. Yeah. I guarantee you you'd probably not walking into grocery store Michigan and see anything out of the ordinary. Probably. Yeah. Yeah. Not too much. Yeah. I, um, but that's what makes la la Yeah, it is. Because I'm from Jamaica, so it's a completely very different, very different here. First time. Oh my goodness. What I, so I'm curious, what animal do you guys feel like you can like relate to most? I feel like I'm a like cheetah. I like kit cats. Ooh, yeah. No, I kind of a cheetah. I have two big German shepherds. Speaker 2 00:18:28 Ooh. Best dogs in the world. Yeah. I love big cats. Yeah. Lakes, chee leopards. Yes. The cheetahs Lion Tiger. I get that. Yeah. You coming to my interview thing? I'm so glad I got to interview them. You're incredible. First of all that let's run it back. You have to be my favorite person that I've ever met in la Our energy, everything. Like the 15 minutes that we've been here, like, I'm so happy. Yeah. Your energy's absolutely beautiful. I'm Ashley. I have, you know why? Because we're not, we're not from here. Go grocery store 7-Eleven Gas Station. Doesn't matter. That's why your aura is just so beautiful. It's so lovely on you here for the rest of the day. Have you laughing. You'll be like, your energy is everything like super crazy. Crazy. The best way. Funny, funny, best but funny Instagram, Elizabeth Woods. Let's go. Let's get awesome. Speaker 2 00:19:36 Let's, we are at the Carl J first annual beauty brush for BT Awards weekend. And we have the honor of interviewing many of your favorite people. You may not even know they're your favorite people, but Kim Kimball, a legend in the hair and beauty industry. Absolutely. We have Lady Wanda, which is a powerhouse talent, you know, that is more than a rising star. She's a star, you know, and she's, she's so dope. She graced us with her amazing aura today. That was a blessing. Let's talk about what do you do? Okay, so, um, I currently work as a mental health outreach coordinator. That is my nine to five. But, um, I'm a formal former commercial and print model. And I am a published stylist. Uh, wow. Published photographer. Full circle. Full circle. And I worked as a creative director for many years. So it's, it's been beautiful to, to, you know, come back and sit in a space I've held for, for over a decade. Speaker 2 00:20:41 So it's beautiful to, you know, kind of take a risk fight from working in the mental health space now and come back and just enjoy like great adventures once again. So I'm so quick. So I'm so grateful to get to be here with the likes of Ashley who is an entertainment attorney. That's incredible. I love being around brilliant, powerful women. You know, just sitting in this space with you today has been a blessing, you know, cause you know, our job requires, um, or job requires so much like, um, academia. So, you know, the balance of having creative moments, you know, that's so important. Yeah. I honestly, I didn't know anything about, well, first of all, thank you to the dog for flying the party with the guys. Um, but it, I didn't really know that I had any creative juice at all until like 2020. Like of course, you know, in, in high school I do my notes and draw these pictures all. Yes. Speaker 2 00:21:39 Um, but I didn't know really until one I moved to LA and two the pandemic hit. Wow. And I had nothing to do other than stick with myself. Yes. And that's the first time I ever, my friend was like, wow, Ash, like your voice is so powerful. I wanna speak. Wow. I wanna hear you speak. Why don't you like, get in the booth? You represent artists all day. Why don't you Wow. Make, I was like, oh, no, no, no. I hate my voice. I don't wanna, my God. And he forced me into the booth in that moment. And I made a song and it actually is the intro video to the World Room podcast. Oh my god. It's unreleased. But it's one of my favorite things. Cause it was the first time I ever become so Right. That's a and that day, like it changed my life. Speaker 2 00:22:27 Um, it's like become a part of like who you, who you know yourself to be. Now it's nice that I get to merge kind of entertainment law with entertainment. Yes. And when I started the podcast, I had absolutely no clue Wow. That I was going to go into a mental health route. Wow. It just happened. Wow. And that is something that's so near and here to me to speak on. So our passions have that is, that is why I'm just off of We're beautiful. Get, I'm like, yes. But we have similar passion and mindsets, you know, honestly. And you are an island. Yes. Island yachting. Yay. Ok. The island Florida. So the island like Oh yeah. The energy. You know. And um, when I was in law school, I had the opportunity to study abroad at University of the West Indies in bar what? Oh my God. Youi and Barbie. Yes. When I was at Youi that summer, they had the Youi games at that campus. So I was there for law school and everybody else was there to party. So I have like the best of both worlds. Wow. And I fell in love with Barbados. Like, Speaker 2 00:24:04 First of all, I have been, as soon as I saw her walk through the door, I had to compliment this dress. What are you wearing? Actually? A small boutique in New York. I dunno. Oh, that's okay. We love the supportive small, we love supportive black old business small businesses. Absolutely. And we're so excited to just be on like a powerful dope woman like yourself. There's this one song on repeat that is stuck in my head. Okay. That says, I wish you well, my love. Oh, oh wow. To say that. Yes. So we're not gonna get into my life story, but that song has been on repeat in like, the last maybe two to three weeks. Wow. And it gives me such just energy. It makes me feel so good because boys suck. Um, and it just like really like put me in a positive space. Wow. Speaker 2 00:24:56 So thank you for that. You know, you in the music industry, you never really know. Like, this could be your worst song to you or something you never thought and you never know. I love that you said that. I actually, I love that record. Cause it actually, it sounds like it's about relationship, relationship, but it's actually about the loss of it. Wow. Wow. So when you listen to it again, um, with that in mind, you'll have like a whole nother perspective. But it's really about losing like a best friend and my sister. That is, that makes it even more, even more powerful because I'm out here alone in LA with just my little sister. Yeah. Wow. And we've been going through a very, very rough, like last year. Wow. Um, and we just got to a really good space. And I actually, when I heard that song, I sent it to her. Speaker 2 00:25:46 Yeah. I love that. That's crazy. So it seems like you're big on sisterhood. So speaking of sisterhood, you recently did a record with Sierra. Yes. And also Lola Brooks. Yes. How was that? How was working on that project for you? Incredible. I mean, both are literally like my sister and four, um, Sierra's so sweet and nursery and helpful. And Lola has this energy. She's like four nine, but she got this. She's just like, her spirit is like contagious when you, every time it's a blessing to watch. She know we're so different as artists. Music. Yes, absolutely. Whatever. Speaker 2 00:26:29 Yeah. That's incredible. Well, I'm a huge fan. Thank you. Of your music and then even now experiencing your aura now. You know, it's just, it's a blessing and you know, I I see your career like being able to be sustained for a very long time. You know, it's hard to come across beautiful spirits like that. You know, I actually, so I, I had an episode and it's titled Rat Bitches versus They're Fans. Oh. Because, you know, it's everybody against everybody, women against women. So it's really like a breath of, breath of fresh air to have like such collaborative spirit supportive women around. So I definitely commend you for that. Um, obviously it's b e t award weekend. So what are you most excited about besides this beautiful brunch? Um, this weekend? Um, my birthday tomorrow Happy birthday. Happy birthday. I'll be not gonna the awards this year. Speaker 2 00:27:26 Um, I decided to give away my passes, but Oh, cool. Um, I just to sit with God for a second, just, you know, hug a tree. That's, I that, that's important. Yeah. Phone time, Trevor. And that's so important though, you know, being able to tap into your spirituality and stay grounded. Oh, absolutely. Especially in such a fast paced industry. It's like you really have to prioritize like time to like, you know, take it all in and then refocus. Right, right. Absolutely. So since it is the beauty brunch, I must ask, what is your skincare regimen? Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Speaker 2 00:28:00 I drink a lot of water, high stress, hydrate. I use, um, bio and, um, moisturizers. Actually very simple. I do the most Right. Water is like key. I'm always down to try my new hair. Okay. Okay. So you switch it up with the hair stuff. Hair love. What would you say is your favorite, um, hair product? Okay. So I really love, it's, it's trying, I'm from New York, so this is how we're <laugh> literally in New York. You grew up from here like four years old. Your hair blown out. Yes. Like so young. So they have this thing called silicone mix and it like, make hair smells so good. So I like to wash hair, like, I dunno, 30 minutes. Oh. And it's smell like to a point where I love when hair products smell good. Like that's just such a plus thing. Rejuvenate. Oh, oh my. That's, has that been hard to find out here in Cali? No, I, oh, ok. Exactly. <laugh>. It's like in LA you have to pay like a hundred dollars deposit every time you open your that. Exactly. Who or what is your biggest inspiration right Speaker 3 00:29:48 Now? Speaker 2 00:29:50 Uh, I would say what, you know, obviously I inspire myself. What mediocrity. I think it's my, my inspiration. I feel like I never into feel less than or feel average life short for mediocre opportunities. Mediocre career, mediocre love. Speaker 3 00:30:10 So Speaker 2 00:30:12 Passion. Yes. Yes. I'm inspired by my shortcoming, inspired by people that week. Wow. I'm inspired by people You can't see the vision that I can see. Wow. That's powerful. That's beautiful. That like, I, this might be one of my favorite interviews. I really appreciate you sitting down with us and um, thank you for hosting this beautiful event. Um, and I hope you have a wonderful birthday tomorrow. Yeah. We loved having you. Yours beautiful. We're excited for whatever you have birthday, I would've Speaker 3 00:30:55 Go Speaker 2 00:30:56 To sleep. Low key. But you are worth celebrating and we're so happy you decided to celebrate this event with our Speaker 3 00:31:02 On really was just a concept and an idea. Do something amazing. Special. So we want Happy Birthday made, happy birthday, happy birthday, happy that someone has been inspired. The show or person you work with that is, is truly amazing and is extra worth it all. When I here chair, I saw you Speaker 5 00:31:58 Put your hands together for our educator, Mr. Greg. Speaker 6 00:32:09 Uh, we kind of have that competitive edge, that competitive energy amongst each other. So this is very special for that. And um, I feel like it's a full, full circle moment for me. Cause when I first moved to Los Angeles and actually Kim Kimble was one of the great reasons why I was able to move Angeles. Two announcements I am opening up. I know sometimes we can be so separated we're not really given and sharing amongst each other. And so I wanted to create a space that was open floor, like we used to have, you know, to help emerging artists. So, um, I have a situation called resident, um, artisty residence. So even if you are local, even if you are from out of town, you can come and do a day rate. You'll have everything supplied for you. Cones, brushes, blow dryer, Prada, um, and a full range of color. Speaker 7 00:33:17 Wow. Speaker 6 00:33:18 The second thing I'm gonna be doing, um, a lot of education. And so I just started my nonprofit, which is the Global council. And um, this is gonna have programs that will help, um, like independent contractors, students, you're starting off and you need maybe about 25% of your blueprint this week. You know, it's gonna help you with that. It's gonna help place, um, young stylists and apprenticeships where they can grow more. They can in education, they can go behind the scenes with me or another educator and just see what it's behind the scenes. Speaker 5 00:33:59 Put your hand together as we acknowledge for the celebrity run Carl j. Social media influencer of the year for our amazing contribution in the hair game to your girl key. Speaker 7 00:34:23 She is, uh, hands down, when I say hustle heart, when I say nonstop, when I say a natural hair artist, socio genius oils, hair sprays, flat eyes salons, celebrity artists responsible for books of everyone with tickets, summer for everyone. She was a Tyler Perry, Tyler Perry, communities. These are giant's not where a lot of support. It's not a place where people encourage. So you have to overcome a lot of obstacles. I'm sure a lot of people here in their own right city states have to. So this is a living testimony that you can be successful. You can make a Speaker 6 00:35:09 Shitload of money, Speaker 7 00:35:10 You can be YouTube, social media and be a stylist. I flowers, cultural icon, Speaker 2 00:35:21 All the coming out. So I know that it has probably been an incredible, incredible time getting this event together. Um, what has been your favorite part of the day? Well, for me, uh, seeing so many of these babies Speaker 3 00:35:37 Spawn greatness. I can remember when Carl j was just getting like out of beauty school starting as a stylist. Wow. And so it's been well over 20 years later. I can remember when he got married. I can remember when he did his first hair show. I can remember when we got put out of Atlantic City. I can, you know, I mean I can remember when they tore up the Near Corps Center in Philadelphia. I mean, it's, it's been so many things and I always tell people if crazy stuff don't happen in your life, you don't have history. Yeah. And so you only can create history outta shit that goes on in your life. Man. This is just a testimonial. Just like almost every single stylist in here can probably tell you a story of something that has happened or transpired. Yeah. Um, but I think what the golden nugget is for me when it comes to Carl, there's a lot of success that make a lot of money. Right. They don't do shit for the community. There's enough. They are self flawed, they are Rey, it's never enough money. Everything is about chasing the bag and they never think about giving back to the community. And so when somebody comes to underwrite this kind of, this kind of fanfare for people to be celebrated for their greatness. Absolutely. To me that's a great man of great characters. Speaker 2 00:36:59 Absolutely. It does, it does speak a lot to the character of someone because I also, I'm not from Philly, but I'm actually from Pittsburgh. Okay. So I know the, the struggle that I'm sure that that we come from and to overcome everything that's thrown in his face and still come out on top and still be able to put together something so beautiful and honor other people. Not even, Hey, look at me and what I did Speaker 3 00:37:27 And, and let me just tell you there are so many things. I mean even he didn't get a chance to even talk about it. You know, about last year this time Carl j was in the hospital with Covid 19. Wow. For three months. He didn't even know if he was going to make it out of there. And he said that God gave him a second chance or second lease on life. We would make this life an impact to others. And he have lived up to that committed living cities all over the country. Wow. And for me, 30 years later, during the hair, shelter, houses and television project, millions and millions of dollars given back to the community, through our community corporate giving. Yes. I support people like him. Yes. Because he's different. The act of reciprocity, that means what you get is what you get. And for me, that's what the golden nugget all of this is, is for me. Speaker 2 00:38:19 So, so tonight we honored the likes of the illustrious Kim Kimball. Yeah. How was, how was just, you know, knowing, you know Kim in her earlier parts of her like beauty. How was it seeing this all pan Speaker 3 00:38:31 Out? This is funny to me. Cause I was like, this is the third Wow lifetime achievement award I presented to Kim Kimble. Wow. That wow. That's amazing. Uh, okay. It's been, you know, it was one for ubiquitous. There was another one here in the city when we came here for Air Idol. Wow. It was today, which is the third opportunity. So, but I think the story for me, for Ken Kimbo, when we look at reality tv, she was really the vanguard Yes. And the gateway. Yes. Black hate. Absolutely. You know, that was long before the Meaning league. Speaker 2 00:39:06 Right? Speaker 3 00:39:07 Yes. The women of and Last walk around with their family, Kim was doing that. Yes. Yes. And so that's a testimonial again from Agree. Absolutely. And then Speaker 2 00:39:20 The evolvement of the industry. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> like is just so beyond me. Like I don't, I don't understand how possibly any of them can do it, but I'm so glad because, Speaker 3 00:39:33 And the longevity of their careers, the Speaker 2 00:39:36 Longevity Speaker 3 00:39:36 Of their career. Lemme tell you something, y'all gonna laugh when y'all get you. Cause lemme tell you something. These chick was coming out the plastic bag today baby. Cause I thought earrings that was hundred. I was like, grandma push you down a steps. I'm gonna take the mirror. I mean, I mean here was like, it was, it was a day of great fashions, great style, great skin, beautiful hair. I ain't seen no tracks. I mean it was just a, it was mama was would be brown. Everybody you know, showed up. Speaker 2 00:40:16 Um, that that was actually what you said. You better show up and show, Speaker 3 00:40:20 Make a lasting pressure and you couldn't pick a better weekend. Right. To do this. Because when you think about it, right, this is the weekend that Tyler Perry takes Vanguard, a black entertainment television again. Right. Wow. And so all of this great transition of Black Revolution, it's coming back to the forefront. Absolutely. The last should be first and the first should be last. Yes. And our community is getting our just due and walking. We're walking in our power. Speaker 2 00:40:55 No. This season I just love it Speaker 3 00:40:56 So much walking into our ness and I am just, I'm just like here. I'm still standing to be here three generation later stylists and still here, you know, with dreadful. Speaker 2 00:41:10 What are you wearing today? Because Speaker 3 00:41:12 Is given, Speaker 2 00:41:13 Is it Speaker 3 00:41:14 Honey? Well, you know, cause I am old, you know, I have a line c Jackson collections and so I dress a lot of people around the country. So I'm a wardrobe stylist. You wouldn't know that if you asked my nephew the two things I'm whack He's like the, you know, so I take all my fashion stems from tj. Oh he's the person that really is my inspiration. I live through young people. I'm inspired by that. I just think the evolution of our community really kind of evolves by us getting behind young people and pushing her forward. And I just thank God I give for the grace, uh, to be here, uh, to celebrate with you. Absolutely. Speaker 2 00:41:58 We're so grateful for not only your Speaker 3 00:42:00 Contributions, you know, in this industry, but also just Speaker 2 00:42:04 Your passion two give Speaker 3 00:42:05 Back to you. Oh yeah. I'm passionate about it. I remember when we first came on TV one and uh, tangle was a lock first hit the scene. We were the very first television documentary over a two hour documentary on hair. And I felt weird about it cause I'm like, are they that interested in me? They would do a two hour documentary on my life, the Speaker 2 00:42:25 Imposter syndrome. It Speaker 3 00:42:28 Will Up, uh, when I look at the Derrick js and the Terrence Stevenson's and the Ms. Lawrence's and the Kyle Bullocks and Tyre Jacksons and all of those guys here have kind of come to our doors and have become great. I am honored to know that. I've just been a part of that amazing journey. Speaker 2 00:42:50 Absolutely. Thank you so much for one, for sitting down with us, but for all of your contributions to this beautiful event Yes. And into the industry as a whole. Thank you. Speaker 3 00:43:00 Thank you for having me. Thank you ladies. We was such an expert job. Speaker 2 00:43:04 Well, where can we find you on social media? Speaker 3 00:43:06 You can go to my Instagram. It's Glenn g l Yn N Jackson. Are you going anywhere on the worldwide? Wherever you can ask my best friend, which is Google Speaker 2 00:43:15 <laugh>. Speaker 3 00:43:16 I didn't know, you know, I called Hills and um, it's not excellent man. What else can I say? Man, this is the mobile moment. Check out bitches. We made organic cold juice, everybody. Oh my God. He's amazing. Yeah. Legendary. Yeah. Speaker 2 00:43:37 Is this going to be an annual event? Speaker 7 00:43:40 Absolutely. That's my intention to start it and keep it going. Build it and grow it. Um, include more people, you know, build. So this is my first year, you know, with the prototype and you know, after a couple weeks goes past and all that dust settle, I'll look at it. Yes. See how I can trim the flat, see what, you know, what I could use less of, what I could use more of. You know, how I can make it, uh, more efficient and better for next year. Speaker 2 00:44:04 So what I've noticed with your personal brand and even like just the different lives you've touched, you're so big on giving back to the community. It seems to be a passion of yours. Yes. So tell us a little bit, um, about that. Speaker 7 00:44:14 Well, I believe that it's just nature. Not even have, but in life it's about that's possible. You know, if you, you know, put something into the earth or give you something back. My grandmother was very religious and she raised me in, in, in Bible and she used to tell what recipe she used to say, even when you, even when you pick from the earth. Wow. You said the Bible would command you to let the earth rest for awhile. Wow. The Bible would say, let the earth rest. You have to let the earth rest. You can't just keep picking and picking and picking. You know, the only way to keep what you have is to give it away. I like that. That's the only way to keep it. You get what I mean? So mm-hmm. <affirmative>, I believe that's why I'm blessed, to be perfectly honest with you. I mean, I cut hair, you know, I, I do, you know, gray hair when I do. But yeah, I don't believe that. That's the reason why I'm successful. Speaker 2 00:45:02 What made you interested or want to get started in, in the beauty and and fashion and hair industry? Speaker 7 00:45:10 Well, I always say when you're born to do something, you don't choose it. Speaker 2 00:45:13 Wow. Speaker 7 00:45:14 It chooses Speaker 2 00:45:14 You. That is true. I love that. Speaker 7 00:45:15 You don't choose it. If you were to ask, you know, Michael, what made him start singing? What made him choose music? Michael didn't choose music. Speaker 2 00:45:22 It chose him. Speaker 7 00:45:23 Floyd didn't choose boxing. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, you know, so when you look at things like that, you know, wow. You just have to be in tune with yourself mm-hmm. <affirmative> and you have to listen. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> and if you listen mm-hmm. <affirmative>, you know, most people, their hobbies. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> is what they were born today. Speaker 2 00:45:40 Ain't that a word? Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, Speaker 7 00:45:41 That's a word. Most people, their hobby is what they were born in. Speaker 2 00:45:44 Wow. That's really good life advice. I dunno, I'm gonna like, you know, sit with myself. Speaker 7 00:45:49 But they just, you know, I do this for a living. I work here, but wow. This is what I do as a hobby. But that's what you're born. So if you would've applied passion, discipline, sacrifice to your hobby, then Speaker 2 00:46:00 That can be Speaker 7 00:46:02 Yeah. Because everybody was born to do something. Everybody has a purpose. Everybody has a mission. Everybody has a 10 somewhere. Speaker 2 00:46:09 Yeah. So what can we expect from Carl Jay and his brand in the near future? Speaker 7 00:46:14 Wanna be fair? I'm very spontaneous. Okay. So, you know, Speaker 2 00:46:18 So stay on your toes, you know. Speaker 7 00:46:19 Yeah. You know, I'll have a vision night and I'll jump in the bathroom. Um, but we opening up Car J Beverly Hills very soon I'm looking at looking at, uh, buildings and, you know, so That's Speaker 2 00:46:32 Wild. That's exciting. Wow. Thank Speaker 7 00:46:34 You. So I'll be, I'm sure I'll be signing release on that soon. Wow. Um, going to Ghana in December for my next airplane. So I'm looking forward to going to God. Wow. You know, and you know, just right now, right after this, I just wanna take a little bit of time off and um, and uh, just reflect, relax and let the earth rest. Speaker 2 00:46:54 Carl, it was such a pleasure to be here. And just like in the presence of greatness, you know, tonight we honored people like Kim Kimball Speaker 7 00:47:03 <inaudible> Speaker 2 00:47:03 Association. Kim. Yeah. So we honored, we saw a lot of greatness take place. And that just speaks to your greatness itself. Thank you. It was a pleasure just to sit here and like so can all, all of this excellence. Speaker 7 00:47:13 It was my pleasure. I guys coming out part of this. Hope you be a part of what we go. We, Speaker 2 00:47:19 Oh, I'm already waiting for the invite next year because this brunch was amazing from the food. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> to the vendors, everything to the energy. Um, my girlfriend came and she said, this is such grown sexy, good energy. Mm-hmm. It's the only thing that I have time for now. Well, exactly. I love Speaker 7 00:47:37 That. It's like Party with a purpose. Speaker 2 00:47:40 Oh yes, yes it is. B c award weekend. We're celebrating 50 years in hip hop, 50 Speaker 7 00:47:52 Years in hip hop. I'm looking forward to, I'm a hip hop head. I love Speaker 2 00:47:55 Ok. Who's your favorite? Jay-Z all JayZ. Okay. Speaker 7 00:47:58 All time JayZ. Speaker 2 00:47:59 Okay. Okay. That alive. JayZ Speaker 7 00:48:07 Z Shawn Carter. Speaker 2 00:48:09 Oh, I love Speaker 7 00:48:10 Because he's just the epitome of greatness. Greatness. Mm-hmm. And somebody took pastor, somebody who just took it to another lane, took it to levels that no one else has ever taken it to financially. And you look at a man who is able to mm-hmm. <affirmative> be a family man. Speaker 2 00:48:25 Wow. Speaker 7 00:48:26 Not cheat Speaker 2 00:48:26 At Right. Speaker 7 00:48:27 He's a husband. He doesn't cheat that he's a father. He doesn't cheat that he's an entrepreneur. He doesn't cheat that he's a rapper. He doesn't cheat at mm-hmm. <affirmative>. So when somebody can, so, so, so, so when somebody can wear all those hats, I'd be great at it. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, you know, you gotta study what he said. The blueprint. Yes. You know, especially where he came, you know, he came from the streets and took it to different level. So Yeah. You gotta respect Speaker 2 00:48:52 And I see a lot of that in your story. Just, you know, coming from humble beginnings and then, you know, just Yes. Being able to create an empire really. So that's amazing. So what can we tell our future stylist here Speaker 7 00:49:03 Tonight? Never get up. You know, it's part of the process. Don't focus on the end goal. Um, the goal is a lot. The, the destination is bullshit. Never. What you think of the destination is never what you think. Speaker 2 00:49:16 So it's the journey. Speaker 7 00:49:17 It's the journey. I don't care what you ever accomplished. Once you accomplish it in life was never what you thought. You know, I don't care if you get a new car, you get the new car and it's beautiful and it's great, but after a while it's just a good long mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, you know, you get the girl and she's the most beautiful thing in the world and you love her. If I did, if she is down the road, it's just Tiffany. Yeah. You get what I mean? Not that you don't love her, but what I'm saying is if you ain't in love with the novelty Mm. Then you won't won't end for the end. You won't last. You have to be in love with the process. You gotta love pain. You have to be, you have to know how to be comfortable being uncomfortable. You know, you gotta be long suffering and enjoy. Have fixed sin. Yes. Yes. Move forward and just take the, go with the band and you know, just keep going. And then when you do that, and don't compare, you know, comparison Killer joy. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, you know, you just move forward. You will be successful. Speaker 2 00:50:09 That's beautiful. Thank you so much Paul for joining us at your brunch. Brunch. Yes. Um, and you heard it here first. This will be an annual event and we'll be back. Thank you. Next year. Thank you so much. In Black Beverly Hills. Speaker 7 00:50:22 Hills, thank.
